Is In-Home Parkinson’s Exercise Coaching Right for You?
Considering Parkinson’s-specific exercise at home? Start by discussing appropriate activity with your healthcare team, then ask a prospective trainer about qualifications, adaptations, and whether the setting fits your needs. These questions can help you prepare for a conversation with Ellen DeVore, a certified PWR!Moves® instructor.

What should I ask my healthcare team first?
Ask what kinds of exercise are appropriate for you, whether there are activity restrictions, and what support you need to participate. If you have concerns about falls, freezing, or changes in movement, raise those with your neurologist or physical therapist. This guide helps you prepare questions; it does not assess your condition or prescribe exercises.
Exercise can be an important part of living well with Parkinson’s. The Parkinson’s Foundation describes potential benefits for movement, balance, and daily activities. These general benefits are not a promise of a particular result from personal training.
Which qualifications should I ask a trainer to explain?
Ask about Parkinson’s-specific exercise education and how fitness coaching differs from clinical care. Ellen is a certified PWR!Moves® instructor, a NASM-certified personal trainer, and a Corrective Exercise Specialist. These are fitness credentials, not medical or physical-therapy qualifications. Sessions can include everyday movement practice, strength, balance, flexibility, and cognitive challenges, adapted to your abilities. Ellen offers 1:1 and semi-private formats.
Ellen’s PWR!Moves® instructor certification is through Parkinson Wellness Recovery (PWR!), which developed this Parkinson’s-specific movement program. Read about the official PWR!Moves® program, review Ellen’s background, and see her PWR!Moves® service details.
How can I decide whether home is the right setting?
Think about your available space, how easily you can move around it, and any support you need to exercise. In-home coaching avoids a trip to a gym and provides a familiar setting. Ellen brings the necessary workout equipment. You can also discuss live virtual coaching if that better fits your circumstances.
Ask Ellen how your goals and your healthcare team’s guidance would fit her service. Where you need clinical assessment or rehabilitation, your treating team is the appropriate starting point. Personal training complements that care.
What should I bring to a consultation?
Prepare a short list of the activities you would like to do more comfortably, your exercise experience, and any activity guidance or restrictions from your healthcare team. Be ready to describe your space, preferred format, and support needs. You can ask a spouse or care partner to help you organize your questions if you wish.
The purpose is to discuss fit, not to assume a particular program, result, or level of assistance. Ask what the next step would be if Ellen’s coaching is suitable and what needs further discussion with your healthcare professional.
